Royal Blue Isn't Only For Royal Family

This is my third garment that I have sewn from the Draped Draped book. The designs are really  something special, some of them with a very artistic, 'elaborate' look to them, one might struggle to find an occasion to wear them.

This is the lovely book:

I tend to use the patterns as a guidance and modify them to my liking or mix and match with my own patterns. I made this vest last summer with no changes though:

The design from the Drape Drape 2 book, I've only used the skirt pattern and drafted my own close fitting top to go with it:

And finally this is my version:

Lovely royal blue medium weight cotton stretch fabric with ribbed neckline.

I made this purple tassel necklace to go with the dress:

I dyed my hair a couple days prior to the shoot. The red/ orange shade creates a nice contrast with the blue colour, doesn't it?

And lastly- what do you guys think about the dress?

Simple Tunic Dress

Simple straight line tunic is a very versatile shape as it give a lot of room to play around. I love my tunics with belts or elastics to shape the waist.
The first one was made from a light red fabric with elastic stitched around the waist and a big bow stitched on the side ( I love the bow^_^) :

The red on is from last summer.
My newest one is made from grey colour lightweight wool blend fabric with tight elastic casing as well as printed fabric side inserts:

Playing around with details/ fabric choice when using the same simple pattern totally changes the outcome.

Sewing from Drape Drape 2

I love books so much that I often treat myself with them^_^
And when my new Drape Drape 2 book arrived I couldn't wait to start sewing! I chose something simple to start- my first piece of clothing is a vest.

It's a lovely 3 piece draped vest with oversized pockets. It's very comfortable and the fabric I used (heavy weight cotton jersey) it's so soft and warm too.

Pictures from the book itself:

And here is my vest:

I'm standing on top of the roof  where the lighting is great to take pictures. But although the sun was shining so brightly that evening it was quite windy and I was very cold.. Just putting a brave face, am acting as if it was hot cause the vest looks much better with bare arms^_^

Hand printing and fashion- 50s Tie Front Shirt

Hello,

I was doing some design and pattern cutting last week and came up with this vintage inspired- 50s tie front shirt with sea side inspired hand printed design on it.

It's such a comfortable slightly loose cut, it's perfect for warm summer days.
Looks great with jeans and shorts and skirts too!

My hand carved boat stamp

I love this design so much that I am going to make more shirts!^_^
The next one I have in mind is in blue colour with pink flamingo prints, let's see how that goes...

Fashion and Screen Printing

Hello everyone^_^

How have you been???
I don't seem to be able to stop printing! And recently I've decided to take my printing adventure to the next level- designing a fashion garment, printing on the cut out fabric panels before finally sewing them together. The outcome was very pleasing to my eyes! One more skirt to wear! ^_^

Below I am sharing the process and the final garment with you guys!

Drawing on the freezer paper and the cutting out the shapes out.

I've treated myself to a new (and much bigger than the one I made myself a while ago) screen frame which is of a perfect size to print on fashion garments.

Applying textile paint..

First colour applied. I'm letting it dry a bit before peeling off the paper. And once the ink has dried completely I will fix it permanently with a hot iron.

Once the black print dried I applied a second colour- which was metallic (or as they are called- opaque) silver.

And then finally the remaining step was to sew the skirt...
Here it is:

And here I am enjoying the fruit of my hard work! ^_^

Thank you for stopping by!

Owl and bunny softies

Hello and good afternoon!

I'm sorry I haven't been writing much lately.
The weather here in Scotland has been a bit crazy and although you can't say that spring is in the air tomorrow is the first day of spring- 21st of March. That surely must mean an improvement from then on Mother Nature! Fingers crossed!
Anyway putting the outdoor conditions aside- spring definitely came to my house a bit earlier.
Like everybody else I had been feeling a bit down with the cold and slush and wind all at once and decided to incorporate lots of spring and vibrant colours into my recent projects and the outcome had no doubt brought a huge smile to my face^_^

Please feel free to leave a comment. Or share your spring projects.  I would love to see them!

Here are my Spring Owls in the making just about to get stuffed:

And here they are proudly showing off^_^

You can purchase my owls from my Etsy shop

And here are the Spring Bunnies still flat and not looking like bunnies at all:

But here they definitely are 100% bunnies! Sweet and colourful!^_^:

If you like my bunnies you can find them at  my Etsy store

One more bunny with big and cute eyes in slightly more subtle colours:

Also available from my Etsy shop
What do you think? They looks so adorable sitting together on the shelf right across, distracting me!^_^

Enjoy your last day of winter!
Bye bye ugly slushy snow-less winter!

^_^
